Blood & Gasoline

from A Void & A Vibrant Sky by Dan Morose

lyrics

Maybe you were right all along:
I’d be better off dead.
Or maybe you were wrong:
I can make it to the end–
glass shattered across the pavement

Blood and gasoline joined in matrimony
in a temple of open skin.
I’m buried deep, can barely breathe,
paralyzed beneath this wreckage.

The checkered flag at my fingertips
I’ve never felt so close but I’m still so far away

I knew that I’d be better alone,
But I couldn’t say no.
‘Cause I was gullible from the start,
so you took what you could–
no mercy or remorse

Came here to kill, take the steering wheel
Drive me straight into the median
A flash of light retells my life
And all I see is you

The checkered flag at my fingertips
I’ve never felt so close but I’m still so far away
